The Finnish-African Literature Art Project (FALA) is an initiative of the Finnish-African Society, funded by the City of Helsinki.
Project duration: April 2021 – September 2021.
Funded by the City of Helsinki
The Objective of the Project
The project intends to create awareness and promote African literary works through a series of artistic works, authors’ interviews, and other activities to celebrate the journey of African Literature from the African continent to the Helsinki residents and beyond. (dubbed an Artistic Literature journey through Africa using Finnish lenses)
“Art is man’s constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which is given to him.” Chinua Achebe
The FALA Project will showcase the strength achieved through diversity in Finland and the world. The activities outlined in the project aim to draw people of all generations and backgrounds, enhance integration, and promote inclusivity in the literary space. The activities introduce the Finnish – African connection through book reviews, Afrofinnish artists, author interviews, and audience submissions of their favourite African literature. This project is suitable for all ages, genders, and backgrounds. This project will also highlight and encourage the skills and talents of PLWD and special needs children.
